The holidays are upon us, and for some that means lots of traveling to be with friends and family. Unfortunately, traveling can take a toll on our bodies and minds. Here are some tips for healthy travels so you can enjoy what matters most.
Squeeze in Exercise Anywhere You Can
You might not have access to a gym while traveling, but that doesn’t mean you can let your exercise routine slide. Take advantage of a layover or flight delay by walking around the terminal. Try a circuit of bodyweight exercises in your hotel room, like push-ups, sit-ups, squats and jogging in place. Explore your destination by taking a walking tour of all the sights.
Pack Healthy Snacks
We often have limited access to healthy food when we’re traveling. Pack your bags with healthy snacks to have on hand on the plane, in the car, and at your destination. This is especially helpful if you have any food allergies. Caveman Foods’ snacks are great for traveling because they are healthy, portable and delicious.
The air is very dry inside the plane, so it’s important to drink plenty of water while traveling by plane. Avoid alcohol and salty foods, which also contribute to dehydration. The same holds true for longer car rides. Make sure you stock plenty of fluids or stop frequently along the route for refreshment. You’ll feel fresher and more energized when you get to your destination if you stay hydrated!
Before you leave for your trip, take some time to research healthy food spots and activities at your destination. That way, you can still enjoy the local culture without skimping on nutrition or exercise. You can also look up restaurants at the airport or along the road that serve healthier fare so you don’t get stuck eating fast food when hunger strikes.
Take Your Vitamins
Boost your immunity before and during your trip by taking daily vitamins. Vitamin C and D, and Echinacea are great supplements for helping prevent catching a cold. And as always, don’t forget to wash your hands frequently when traveling!
